The Economic Development Board of Mauritius is set to host an event on the 21st February 2022, as an extension to Mauritius’ participation at Expo 2020. To initiate the weeks activities, the business forum focusing on the Freeport & Logistics industry will take place at the One & Only Royal Mirage in Dubai.
ABOUT THE MAURITIUS FREEPORT
Hosting over 200 operators and employing more than 3,500 people, the Mauritius Freeport is a thriving business platform and a hub for international trade, distribution, and logistics.
Strategically located in the Indian Ocean, the Freeport represents a bridge between Asia, Australia, and Africa, and is home to a range of the world’s leading, global operators.
A Member of the COMESA and SADC regional blocs, as well as the World Free Zones Organisation (WFZO) and Africa Economic Zones Organisation (AEZO), operators can take advantage of Mauritius’ global agreements which offer market access to 68 percent of the world.
Increasing in space from 5,000 to 300,000 square meters in the last quarter of a century, the Freeport features a range of state-of-the-art facilities, including warehouses, cold rooms, processing units and integrated office facilities.
AN INTERNATIONAL AWARD-WINNER
In October 2021, the Mauritius Freeport was awarded the top spot in the regional category of the coveted Annual Global Free Zones of the Year 2021 awards. Globally, it was announced as the runner-up, second only to the Dubai Multi Commodity Centre (DMCC).
Hosted by the Financial Times’ fDi Magazine, this award is regarded as the most prestigious credit a free zone can earn and acknowledges freezones’ effectiveness and ability to bypass the challenges brought on by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The celebration will spotlight the Freeport’s modern infrastructure and showcase Mauritius’ development into a competitive logistics and distribution center for international trade.
